About Local 49 Training Center

International Union of Operating Engineers includes North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota with approximately 13,000 members. Local 49s training and apprenticeship program began in 1978 in Rosemount, Minnesota providing training for journeyman and apprentice alike.

The training center moved from Rosemount to a new site near Hinckley in the fall of 2006. This new location includes approximately 400 acres of training area, 10 classrooms, 11 offices, a 6 bay shop, welding shop, wash bay and an all weather indoor training area of 30,000 sq. feet.

Local 49 Training’s mission is to empower the members of Local 49 through training and education with knowledge and technical ability necessary in order to perform as leaders in their given craft. During the course of the training season, approximately 4,000 members pass through our doors. The training season mainly runs through the beginning of December to the end of the May, during this time members will be involved in both classroom and filed type classes. All classes are instructed by experienced professionals and are intended for upgrading of members skills, productivity, and safety.
