Operators who develop the “skill” to read and understand stakes and do accurate computations are more employable in excavation.
Grades and Stakes is a five-day class. It covers basic math, use of a calculator, stake reading – including symbols, formulas, plan reading. The hands-on experience will include layout using tapes, the eye level, transit, lasers and their application to
figuring and setting grade. Plan reading will cover basic symbols, dimensioning (including the use of engineers and architectural scales), calculations in square feet – square yards – and cubic yards.
This is an excellent course for anyone involved in dirt work.
