Equipment Training - Class Schedule
2012 Hazardous Waste Operations - 40 hour
Any member wishing to receive certification to work on a Hazardous Waste site must receive 40 hours of training as outlined in the OSHA standard contained in 29 CFR 1910.120. Local 49 has offered the 40-hour HazMat course sponsored by the International Union in conjunction with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) for years.
This class will discuss the potential hazards that you could be exposed to, how to protect yourself from those hazards, and how to clean up after being exposed to the potential hazards. You will be operating equipment during the class in Level B HazMat suits, decontaminating fellow students, and being taught the imporatance of protecting yourself in hazardous environments.
The Training Program attempts to create a situation much like what you might encounter on an actual Hazardous Waste clean-up site.
