In accordance with the agreement with the Department of Health, all employees installing building sewer service and water service lines must receive training. The trained employee will
receive a card showing a satisfactory completion of the training. This course will cover all aspects of pipe installation including aspects of the Minnesota Plumbing Code, approved materials, types of joints, use of joints, determining size of drainage
systems, and approved methods of testing.

This course is required for all employees of contractors, including Operating Engineers, installing water and/or sewer lines between the property line and a building. Using actual
materials and methods of installation, the employee will receive the necessary education and training to be a “Pipe Laying Cardholder” in accordance with the statues. Each successful
participant will receive their Pipelayers Card.

NOTE: Last year the Minnesota Utility Contractor's Association (MUCA) decided that their Pipelayer cards would have a three year expiration date on them. Effective May 2011, all cards issued by MUCA must have an expiration date, so members who have a card now but without a date will need to take a refresher class prior to May 2011 per MUCA requirements.
