This course will include all required MSHA training directives as found in 30 CFR for Surface Metal and Non-Metal miners. Local 49 members, with this training, can be admitted to these surface mine sites. Meets part 46 and Part 48 requirements. The first two days of this class will be focused on MSHA specific topics. The third mandatory day will be an 8 hour CPR/AED/First Aid certification class.
The employer is required to supply the training and pay your wages while you are trained and also any additional expenses such as gas, meals, and lodging if you should require it. This is the law.
If you can provide proof of certification within the past 12 months for CPR, you can opt out of the third day of the New Miner class. With this class, you will not be able to receive credit for the 8 hour refresher by taking the third day of the new Miner course.
The 3-day New Miner class is required and should be followed by yearly refreshers.
