COMMERCIAL DRIVER TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR
JOB DESCRIPTION: An instructor is responsible for teaching classes to journey-workers and apprentices alike. To be successful in this position, an instructor must have proven experience driving multiple types of commercial vehicles, including transporting heavy equipment on a lowboy. The CDL instructor will work closely with other instructors in the CDL department, creating schedules and sharing duties.
- Teach CDL classes to commercial driver applicants.

An instructor will be directly responsible to oversee the members taking their classes.
The ideal candidate must have experience driving a multitude of commercial vehicles, and is considered an industry expert in their profession. Having an associate’s degree or higher is ideal, but not a condition of employment. The Instructor will play the biggest role in directly training members of Local 49, and should be passionate about this and recognize training as a way to strengthen the Union and society. The CDL instructor needs to have a thorough knowledge of DOT and FMSCA rules and regulations. The job requires a person who is alert, outgoing and adept in their relations with all types of people (union members, business proprietors and other full time and seasonal instructors). Flexibility and willingness to be versatile is key, including teaching other classes as assigned. Good written and verbal communication skills are highly desirable. A valid driver’s license, basic computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Word and Outlook are required. Individuals applying will be subject to a criminal background check.
